Vines

Here at Rolling Thunder Nursery we grow several vines which we believe to be both unusual and useful in most landscapes.   All of these vines are extraordinarily beautiful and all provide color in the landscape from late summer through fall.  Many of them are featured at the Texas Renaissance Festival in Plantersville, TX, the largest, most beautiful and probably most famous Renaissance festival in the world.  None of these vines are considered invasive or obtrusive under normal cultural practices.

Podranea ricasolina- Port St. John vine, Pink Bower vine    Zone 8 (10 degrees)

This native of India is a common sight in its homeland, but not commonly found here in the USA.   The vine grows to 40' in height and is covered with 10' long racemes of beautiful pink flowers from August to December.  Dies back to the ground in zone 8, but is a very fast grower.  An outstanding choice for covering arbors or fences.  Very easy to grow, and guaranteed to be the highlight of your landscape in the fall.

Thunbergia grandiflora- Blue trumpet vine                     Zone 8 (10 degrees)

An outstanding, extremely fast growing vine that is covered in blue, trumpet-shaped blooms from July through October.  It dies back to the ground in zones 8 & 9, but once established will grow to 20-30' in height in 3 months.  It does equally well in both partial shade and full sun, but has lots more blooms in full sun.  Very easy to grow and tolerates most soils, including very heavy clays.

4" pot- $9.99

Thunbergia alba- White trumpet vine                           Zone 8 (10 degrees)

Just like its cousin T.grandiflora except this vine has broader leaves and white flowers.  An excellent companion to T.grandiflora, planting the two together will give you a stunning bouquet every late summer to fall.

4" pot- $9.99

Antigonon leptopus- Coral Vine                                 Zone 8 (10 degrees)

A beautiful, fast growing vine, the coral vine displays beautiful, pearl-like racemes of delicate flowers up to 6" long in great profusion from July through October.  It dies back to the ground in zone 8, but is so vigorous it will regain its full glory by June.  Easy to grow and prefers full sun, though it will tolerate partial shade.  Available in pink, red and white.
